SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The USC Upstate softball team went 2-0 on Saturday afternoon with wins over UMASS and Oakland University at Cyrill Stadium on a cold and sunny day.
The Spartans and the Minutewomen entered the bottom of the sixth inning in a scoreless tie. Midway through the inning the UMASS starting pitcher left with an injury. Moments later
Savannah Grigsby drove in the game-winning run to give the Spartans their sixth win of the season.
Erin Hill through a complete game and struck out five in the process to pick-up the win inside the circle.
In the second game of the afternoon the Spartans offense came alive and scored five runs to pick-up their second win of the day.
Tiffany Domingue led the offense with a pair of RBI's and
Peyton Darnell went a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate.
Celina Sullivan threw 6.1 innings of shutout softball to pick-up the win, the senior had seven strikeouts in the victory.

Scoring Breakdown
Bottom 6th: With one out in the bottom of the sixth inning,
Sarah Price singled up the middle to keep the inning alive. Price then stole second and gave the Spartans a chance to bring in the game winning run.
Savannah Grigsby made the most of the opportunity as she laced a ball back up the middle to drive in Price from second base.
Notables
Grigsby and Price were the only Spartans to finish the first game with a pair of hits against UMASS.
Erin Hill threw a complete game shutout and she struck out five batters in rout to her second win of the season.

Scoring Breakdown
Bottom 2nd: Alyssa Oakes began the inning by reaching base on an error by the right fielder. A
Peyton Darnell single down the left field line scored Oakes from second base and the Spartans held an early 1-0 advantage. Darnell advanced to third on a passed ball and
Max Barnes drove in the second run of the inning with a sacrifice fly to right field.
Bottom 3rd: Just like the second inning,
Celina Sullivan reached base on an error by the Oakland defense.
Emily Garza came in to pinch run and advanced to second on an infield single by
Sarah Price. With one away in the inning
Tiffany Domingue roped a two-run double to right center field to give the Spartans a 4-0 lead. The freshman came around to score on a wild pitch by the Oakland pitcher.
