DAVIDSON, N.C. – The USC Upstate men's tennis team fell 6-1 on Tuesday evening to the Davidson College men's tennis team.
"Even though we didn't play our best tennis today, I thought mentally we did a good job of trying to work our way out." USC Upstate head tennis coach
Tim McLane said, "We kept fighting and that's something everyone can take away from this match. We just have to do a better job of executing on critical points and doing our best to keep any momentum we get on our side."
Davidson earned the first point of the match after they defeated the Spartans No. 1 and No. 2 doubles tandems. In singles action the Wildcats took a second point at the No. 6 singles position and a third point at the No. 1 singles position.
Leon Roider picked up a straight sets win at the No. 2 singles flight 6-3, 6-1 to put the Spartans on the scoreboard.
Matches at the No. 3 and No. 5 courts gave the Spartans hope as they headed to decisive third sets but a loss at the No. 4 flight sealed the win for Davidson. Hard fought losses at the No. 3 and No. 5 courts gave Davidson the 6-1 advantage.
The Spartans will have a short turn around as they travel to Statesboro, Ga., to face off against Georgia Southern on Saturday afternoon.
Keep UP with the Spartans
