NINETY SIX, S.C. – Competing for the final time during the 2022-23 season, USC Upstate men's golf wrapped stroke play at the 2023 Big South Men's Golf Championships Tuesday with two Spartans claiming top-15 finishes and a third top-30 placement as play concluded at The Patriot at Grand Harbor.
 
Leading the Spartans, senior Brady Hinkle tied for 13^th in the tournament field as he fashioned his sixth event with a 54-hole total of 220 or better—his fifth in the past six events—as he posted scores of 71-73-76-220. His opening-round score of 71 stood as Upstate's lone round under par and Hinkle's ninth such round this season.
 
Behind Hinkle, sophomore Barrett Josey marked the biggest mover on the leaderboard for the Spartans, jumping 10 spots from the opening to the final round as he tied for 19^th to secure the best leaderboard finish of his career. He turned in totals of 76-74-74-224.
 
Rounding out the contingent of top-30 scorers for Upstate, junior Zander Briggs fashioned marks of 75-79-73-227, tying for 27^th. Freshman Christophe Palmans tied for 33^rd in the field, nearly giving the Spartans four top-30 finishers for the first time since 2018-19, carding tallies of 74-79-78-231.
 
As a team, Upstate posted totals of 296-305-301-902, finishing eighth on the final stroke play leaderboard. The team's opening-round 296 was the team's 11^th sub-300 round of the year and continued a streak of six straight events with a sub-300 round—eight such rounds during the spring slate.

Notable

• Leading to his top-15 finish at the Big South Men's Golf Championships, Brady Hinkle tied for third in the tournament field in Par-4 Scoring, shooting two-over (4.07) on the 10 Par-4 holes at The Patriot at Grand Harbor.
• Contributing to his top-20 finish, Barrett Josey finished top-10 in the event field in two statistical categories, tying for ninth in total pars with 33 and tying for 10^th in Par-5 Scoring at five-under (4.58).
• For the first time this season, two Spartans concluded an event with an eagle on their scorecards as Brady Hinkle and Christophe Palmans double-circled a score on their cards. Hinkle's eagle came on the Par-5, 549-yard 18^th hole during the second round while Palmans' came on the Par-4, 355-yard 6^th hole in round three.
