Big South Conference and USC Upstate to host league-wide health summit Monday, May 8

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) – The Big South Conference and USC Upstate will host the conference-wide Health Summit on Monday, May 8 on Upstate's campus in Spartanburg, S.C.  The event will feature presentations, education and updates on student-athlete health and wellness issues to Big South member institutional health professionals, strength & conditioning coaches and administrators. 
 
Athletic trainers and other sports medicine personnel from all 10 Big South member institutions will be in attendance.  Monday's morning segment will feature discussions and presentations on PRP injections with John Lucas; Quad Tendon ACL Reconstructions with JD McDermott; and Rehab Strategies for post-op QT ACL Reconstructions with Jeff Pothaven.  The afternoon will address Overtraining Syndrome by Stefan Montgomery; a case study on Load Management of a Division I Women's Soccer team with Julian Ripp; and a presentation from sponsor Henry Schein and Mueller
 
On Tuesday, the conference's Head Athletic Trainers will conduct their annual business meeting, which includes a discussion with John Parsons from the NCAA Sports Science Institute regarding the organization's new initiative of Holistic Model of Benefits for Student-Athletes.
 
"The Big South Health Summit has become a great event," said USC Upstate Director of Sports Medicine Eric English.  "I am excited about the educational offerings we have this year.  As this year's host, it is also a great opportunity for Upstate to share the knowledge and practices of our staff, team physicians, and medical partners."

Supporting this year's Health Summit are Big South Corporate Partners North Carolina Coalition Against Domestic Violence (NCCADV), Hercules Tires and Bob McCloskey Insurance. 

The Big South's annual Health Summer was started in the 2016-17 academic year and has been hosted by High Point University (2016-17), UNC Asheville (2017-18) and Longwood University (2018-19).
