Event Preview
USC Upstate cross country closed the 2023 season after hosting the NCAA Southeast Regionals. Jordan Thornton led the effort for the women's team, completing her first collegiate 6K in 24:01 at a pace of 6:26. She was followed on the team by Adalie Harrison and Maureen Ortiz who both finished averaging a under a seven-minute mile. As a team, the women would finish 34th of 41 schools registered in the regional. Thornton, Harrison, and Ortiz return for the 2024 campaign as do Grace Glassmeyer, Grace Miller, and Gabby Sanchez. Head coach Carson Blackwelder and the women's team enter the season with the addition of Emma Kutilek, Beth Ludwick, Izzy Miserendino, Sofia Strom, and McKinzie Vick.
Sam Shimanskiy and Carter Sexton, helped pace the men through the Southeast Regionals after both maintained a 5:20 pace and finished under 33:15. The men finished 31st of 40 schools competing. In addition to Shimanskiy and Sexton, Elias Harrison, Connor Herold, Gabe Herron, Mason Parish, Eric Perry, Chris Post, and Derek Staton return for another year running as Spartans. Blackwelder adds Landen Barron, Nick Brooks, Jason Heusinger, Ian Kelbert, and Cameron Moors to round out the men's roster for the 2024 season.

Following the Covered Bridge Open, Upstate will return home to Spartanburg to host the annual Upstate Eye Opener Sept. 6 at Milliken Research Center.
