SPARTANBURG, S.C. – For the first time in 364 days, USC Upstate baseball finds itself with the Big South's Player and Freshman of the Week winners as Wylie Waters and Trey Bentley were named winners of the respective awards Monday afternoon by the conference.
Â
Waters, a native of Vancouver, British Columbia, upped his hitting and reached base streaks to season-long six and 11 games, respectively, with a pair of multi-hit and multi-RBI games last week while homering thrice. Twice, he drove home a season-high four RBI, doing so in the midweek against Western Carolina and in game two against Charleston Southern. In the latter game, Waters finished a single shy of the cycle.
Â
Hailing from Mulberry, Fla., Bentley increased his team-long reached base streak to 17 games, reaching in each of the last six games with a hit. He bookended his week with multi-hit games with the midweek contest at Western Carolina seeing him homer and drive home a pair. Bentley launched another home run in game two against Charleston Southern.
Â
Winning multiple conference weekly awards, the week marks the first since May 19, 2025, to see Upstate capture multiple weekly award winners, and the first since April 14, 2025, to see the winners come in both the Player and Freshman of the Week categories. The honor stands as the second career win for Waters and the first career win for Bentley.
