CHARLOTTE, N.C. – For the sixth straight season, a stretch dating back to 2021, USC Upstate baseball has captured at least one winner of all four league weekly awards in the same season as Max Kaplan earned Big South Starting Pitcher of the Week honors Monday afternoon.
Â
For the second time in his career, the Glencoe, Ill. native, captured Big South Starting Pitcher of the Week honors after tossing a complete game. Kaplan scattered five hits over 9.0 innings of work, permitting a lone earned run en route to his fifth quality start of the campaign. Tying his season-high, he struck out seven batters against one walk.
Â
Kaplan began his outing retiring the first nine batters he faced, carrying a perfect game into the fourth inning. While Presbyterian scratched a run in the fourth, he stranded a pair of runners in the frame, stranding four runners from the fourth to the fifth innings. From the sixth inning onwards, Kaplan faced one batter over the minimum, inducing his team-leading ninth double play and retiring the final five hitters he faced.
