SPARTANBURG, S.C. – USC Upstate cross country had a stellar showing in its first home meet of the season, with the men taking a fifth-place finish as a team and the women claimed seventh.
Head coach Carson Blackwelder was satisfied with the teams' performances saying, "This was our first test this season and it went well. There were a lot of PRs today along with a new Milliken course best."
In the men's first 8k race of the season, freshman Ian Kelbert led the group for the very first time and nearly cracked a top 10 finish in his first race at Milliken Research Center with a time of 25: 32.28. Carter Sexton, Gabe Herron, Cameron Moors and Eric Perry all crossed the finish line in the top 50. Perry and Moors set new personal best at the Eye Opener as did Connor Herrold, Elias Harrison, Nick Brooks, and Jason Heusinger.

In the women's 5K race, freshman Beth Ludwick led the group for the second straight race and had herself a 41st place finish with her time of 19:21.85. Ludwick's solid performance was enough to also set a new personal best. Grace Glassmeyer, Jordan Thornton, and Adalie Harrison all posted sub-21 minute finishes alongside Ludwick.
