
Novo/Milovanovic Reach B-1 Doubles Finals At Southern Intercollegiates

COLUMBIA, S.C. - Junior Anna Novo (Caracas, Venezuela/El Angel) and freshman Emilia Milovanvoic (Paris, France/CNED) moved into the championship match of the B-1 doubles flight at the Southern Intercollegiate Championships at the University of South Carolina, after posting an 8-5 win in the semifinals against the Winthrop duo of Yelina Fadina and Larisa Bekmetova on Saturday afternoon.
Novo and Milovanovic, who have lost just one doubles match this fall, will look to wrap up the title on Sunday at 8:30 a.m. when they face South Carolina's Megan McGavock and Miljana Jocic.
Senior Diana Martinez (Medellin, Colombia/Nuestra Senora del Rosario) and junior Vivian Neuenschwander (Arequipa, Peru/Max-Uhle) also moved on in their doubles bracket, advancing to the consolation finals in B-2 doubles, as they defeated East Carolina's Tamara Sachs and Jessica Cook, 9-7. They face West Virginia's Ashley Pillsbury and Monique Burton at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday.
In singles play, Novo opened up with a 6-2, 6-0 win in the A-1 singles flight against West Virginia's Stacy Percival. She followed with a loss in the quarterfinals to South Carolina's No. 1 and the No. 1 seed in the field, Gira Schofield, 6-1, 6-2. However, she will get a chance to finish in fifth-place in the field, starting by facing Armstrong Atlantic State's Johanna Dahlback on Sunday at 9:30 a.m.
Martinez, playing A-2 singles, fell in the first round against West Virginia's Natalie Prinz, 6-2, 6-4. but in rebounded in the first round of consolations, scoring a 1-6, 6-2 (10-7) win in the super tie-breaker against East Carolina's Jennifer Gennaoui. She moves on to face the College of Charleston's Holly Dowse in the consolation semifinals on Sunday at 10:45 a.m.
Milovanovic fell in her first round match in B-1 singles to West Carolina's Trish Hanson in three sets, 5-7, 7-6 (4), 6-3, but rebounded to down Virginia Tech's Abby Walker, 6-1, 6-2, in the consolation quarterfinals. She will face Zineh Hilali of Columbus State at 10:45 a.m. on Sunday.
In B-3 singles, Neuenschwander fell twice, but will move on to face Ayana Martin of Benedict College at 12 p.m. on Sunday.
Play will resume in Columbia at 8:30 a.m. with doubles matches before the two rounds of scheduled singles play will conclude the tournament.
