The USC Upstate Spartan Performance Center continues to evolve as a key part of the student-athlete experience and the continued growth of USC Upstate Athletics. Under the direction of USC Upstate Athletic Director Matt Martin, the facility has undergone major renovations in recent years to enhance both its functionality and appearance. The most recent renovation was completed in the summer of 2025 and included new flooring, updated branding, several new weight areas and a small expansion that allows more teams and student-athletes to train simultaneously.
Originally opened in 2011, the Spartan Performance Center gave USC Upstate student-athletes a dedicated home for strength and conditioning training after years of operating in more limited shared spaces. Its creation marked a major step forward in the department’s performance development efforts and established a training environment specifically designed for Spartan Athletics.
In 2021, Ingles helped develop the “Ingles Fuel Bar,” a one-stop location where Spartan student-athletes can fuel up before or after workouts, or even between classes.
Over the last several years, noticeable changes have also come in the form of expanded staffing and enhanced nutrition options for Spartan student-athletes, as USC Upstate has taken a central role in strengthening support across all of its programs. Those additions, combined with continued facility improvements, have helped create a more complete performance environment for Spartan teams.
Today, the Spartan Performance Center remains a vital part of USC Upstate Athletics, providing a modern, efficient training environment for Spartan student-athletes across all programs.
