Serving as the home of Spartan men’s and women’s soccer, County University Soccer Stadium has been a key part of USC Upstate athletics since opening in 2001. Since its debut, the facility has supported multiple championship-winning seasons and has grown into a true college soccer complex for USC Upstate.
More recently, the facility has seen major enhancements to further strengthen the student-athlete experience. During 2023-24, the soccer programs received significant upgrades to locker rooms and coaches' spaces, including customized lockers, raised ceilings and new LED lighting.
USC Upstate also shifted additional University entities to other parts of campus, helping create a more dedicated college athletics soccer complex. In 2024, USC Upstate also introduced the “Spartan Goal Zone,” a family-friendly game-day area featuring lawn games, a tailgate-style setup, and a soccer-kicking station for kids.
USC Upstate and Spartanburg County partnered to build five regulation soccer fields on University property. Those fields serve as the home site for Spartanburg’s youth soccer organizations and as practice facilities for USC Upstate’s men’s and women’s soccer teams. Spartanburg County also funded the $850,000 County University Soccer Stadium to attract regional and national youth soccer tournaments, as well as NCAA events in conjunction with USC Upstate.
County University Soccer Stadium officially opened in August 2001 when the Spartans defeated Colorado School of Mines, 1-0. Since then, the venue has hosted Peach Belt Conference Tournament matches for both men’s and women’s soccer, along with NCAA Tournament games in 2002 and 2003. The facility and adjoining youth soccer fields have also welcomed national and regional ODP camps, the Canadian Women’s National Team and NSCAA coaching certification clinics.
The complex was completed in May 2003 with the opening of the University Readiness Center. The building houses five locker rooms, a concession stand, hospitality suites and other resources to support the men’s and women’s soccer programs.
