
Spartans Head To Georgia Tech Looking For Upset Of One Of ACC's Top Programs

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Already with three wins in the young season, the USC Upstate women's basketball team will hit the road for its toughest challenge to date, as it plays Georgia Tech, who is receiving votes in both the Associated Press and ESPN/USA Today polls, on Thursday at 7 p.m.
USC Upstate is led by a Georgia product in freshman Oceana Jackson, who is averaging14.5 points and 7.3 rebounds per game. Sophomore Courtney Hawkins also enters the game averaging 14.0 points per game along with 5.0 rebounds. The Spartans will also look for a continued strong outside shooting presence, as Hawkins, freshman Tiffany Whiting, and junior Courtney Bradley are all ranked among the A-Sun's best outside shooters.
A year removed from an appearance in the second round of the NCAA Tournament, Georgia Tech is off to a strong 5-1 start, with its lone loss of the year coming at the hands of No. 7/8 Georgia, 71-64, on Sunday. Senior guard Chiona Nnamaka leads the Yellow Jackets, averaging 19.7 points and 4.8 rebounds per game. A deadly outside shooter, Nnamaka is firing 42.3 percent from three. Senior forward Janie Mitchell adds 13.5 points and 8.5 rebounds per game for Tech.

The Spartans are 4-2 all-time in games on Dec. 6, last beating Mars Hill, 73-61, in 2004.
This is Upstate's second game against an ACC opponent this year, falling to Wake Forest, 58-51, on Nov. 13.
Freshman Oceana Jackson has averaged 19.5 points, 6.5 rebounds and 2.5 steals in the last two games.
Junior Courtney Bradley is one assist shy of becoming the fifth player in school history to reach 300 career assists.
