Spartanburg, S.C. - USC Upstate women's soccer players Diana Wabnitz and Veronica Lewis were named to the NSCAA/Adidas Southeast Region All-Region Team, released the NSCAA Wednesday. Wabnitz and Lewis both received Third Team honors.
Wabnitz (Tampa, Fla.) finished a stellar career at USC Upstate in 2006, finishing her four-year career with all of USC Upstate's career goalkeeping records. She finished the season with a 1.55 goals against average and five shutouts in six wins on the year. She tallied 105 saves and a .789 save percentage as a starter in 17 of the 18 matches played by the Spartans. She also was chosen to the Peach Belt Conference All-Conference Team.
A four-year starter in goal, Wabnitz finished her career with 33 wins, 375 saves, 24.5 shutouts, 6,499 minutes played, and a 1.37 goals against average. All marks are school records. In addition, she ended her career ranked No. 2 on the Peach Belt Conference career record list for shutouts and saves. This is her first All-Region selection.
Lewis (Elk Grove, Calif.) also finished a stellar career in 2006 and earned her third All-Region honor. Previously, she earned All-Region honors in 2003 and 2004. Despite playing in only 11 matches because of a knee injury, her play was solid enough to earn All-Region honors as a defender. She helped secure five shutouts in six wins for the Spartans.
Lewis finished her career playing in 63 matches, 62 as a starter at left marking back. She possessed the ability to push up on the attack and ended her four years with 12 points.
Wabnitz and Lewis joined eight other players from the Peach Belt Conference on the All-Region teams.
