
Blue Hose Down Spartans, 3-0 For 11th Straight Win

CLINTON, S.C. - Lauren Mason posted 14 kills and Rachel Lewis added 29 assists as Presbyterian College knocked off the USC Upstate volleyball team, 3-0 (30-28, 30-13, 30-20) in non-conference action on Tuesday night at Furman B. Pinson, Jr. Court. Presbyterian improved to 11-4 while Upstate fell to 4-7 on the season.
Sophomore Jesicah Ambrisco (Iowa City, Iowa/Regina Catholic) led the team with 10 kills while freshman Sandra Campbell (Orlando, Fla./Pilot Point (Texas)) added eight. Freshman Megan Healey (St. Louis, Mo./Ursuline Academy) posted a match-high nine digs and sophomore Katie Downey (Belleville, Ill./Belleville West) added three blocks for the Spartans.
The first game was a back-and-forth battle, but the Blue Hose took control scoring four straight points after it was tied at 22 and was able to scratch out a 30-26 victory, finishing on a block from Justine Lanchester and Amanda Kettles. The Spartans hit a hefty .308 in the game, but Presbyterian hit .325.
The Spartans fell behind in the second game, 18-9, and couldn't recover, falling, 30-13. In the final game, Upstate kept it close, as a kill by freshman Sandra Campbell (Orlando, Fla./Pilot Point (Texas)) brought it within one at 17-16, but the Blue Hose rolled on to get 13 of the next 17 points to close out the win.
Upstate returns home after seven matches away from the friendly confines of the Hodge Center as it opens up the Atlantic Sun Conference season with a 7 p.m. Friday match against North Florida.
