
Miller, Wedzik Lead Spartans at FGCU Invitational

ESTERO, Fla. - Julie Miller and Richia Wedzik each fired an opening-round 77 to lead USC Upstate at the FGCU Invitational at the 6,029-yard, par-72 Miromar Lakes Golf Club Saturday afternoon in women's golf action.
Upstate shot a 322 to open the tournament and stands sixth in the six-team event, five strokes out of fifth place and 10 out of third heading into the final round Sunday. Florida Atlantic leads the tournament after firing a 296. Host Florida Gulf Coast is second after shooting a 307 total and is followed by Stetson (312), Barry (315), Bethune-Cookman (317) and Upstate.
Miller, playing in her first tournament of the season, and Wedzik are tied for eighth individually to lead the Spartan attack. Both players shot a 38 on the front nine and a 39 on the back nine to record the pair of 77 scores. Richelle Wedzik finished with an 83 and was followed on the team by Traci Bodner (85) and Audrey Church (89).
June Bolme, from Florida Atlantic, leads the tournament after carding an even-par 72 and is one stroke ahead of teammates P. Phol-uayporn and Karine Bolme, as well as FGCU's Heather Hagerman.
