NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Lipscomb used a 68 sideout percentage to help stop the USC Upstate volleyball team in its quest for its first Atlantic Sun Conference win on Saturday afternoon at Allen Arena, as Lipscomb took a 3-0 (30-20, 30-16, 30-26) decision. Upstate fell to 5-11 overall and 0-4 in the A-Sun and Lipscomb improved to 7-9 overall and 1-2 in the A-Sun.
Freshman Sandra Campbell (Orlando, Fla./Pilot Point (Texas)) led the team with a career-high 12 kills and sophomore Jesicah Ambrisco (Iowa City, Iowa/Regina Cartholic) added 11. Sophomore Morgan Bucciferro (Joliet, Ill./Minooka Community) posted 30 assists and freshman Megan Healey (St. Louis, Mo./Ursuline Academy) added a team-high eight digs for the Spartans. Both sophomore Katie Downey (Belleville, Ill./Belleville West) and junior Angie Varnum (Salinas, Puerto Rico/New Mexico Military Institute) each posted three blocks.
Lipscomb rolled out to a 22-9 lead in the first game thanks to seven straight points off the serve of Alex Scruggs en route to the 30-20 win. In the second game, the Lady Bisons got out to a 20-10 lead en route to the 30-16 win.
The Spartans took an 18-15 lead in the third game after a Bisons attack error, but Lipscomb came back to tied the game at 24. Two straight points on an attack error and a kill from Scruggs gave the Bisons a lead they never relinquished on the way to the 30-26 win.
Jesica Enderle led the Bisons with 14 kills, Ann Mullins added 20 digs and Stefanie Pease posted 47 assists.
Upstate will close its four-game road trip with a trip to the MEAC's Winston-Salem State for a 7 p.m. Tuesday non-conference match.
