Tega Cay, S.C. - The USC Upstate women's golf team shot a 330 Saturday afternoon in the second round of the Shamrock Intercollegiate, moving up one spot and into a tie for seventh. The tournament will conclude with the final round Sunday.
Upstate's 330 was five strokes better than the team tallied in the opening round Friday. The Spartans shot a 335 Friday and, coupled with the 330 Saturday, has a two-round total of 665. Upstate is tied with Siena which led Upstate by a single stroke entering the second round.
Charleston Southern turned in another solid round, finishing Saturday with a 312 and a 618 two-round total to take a one-stroke lead over Princeton entering the final round. Princeton made a big move on the day, firing a 303 for a 619 total. The host Winthrop Eagles are just one stroke back of Princeton and in third place with a 620 total and is followed by Murray State (629), Iowa (636), Xavier (641), Upstate (665) and Siena (665), South Dakota State (673), Gardner-Webb (681), Presbyterian (722), St. Francis (734), The Citadel (753) and Tennessee State (792) in the 14-team event.
Richelle Wedzik shot an 81 to lead Upstate in the tournament. She has a 163 total after an 82 in the first round and is tied for 27th. Audrey Church fired an 82 and is tied for 34th with a 166 total. Richia Wedzik recorded an 84 and is tied for 42nd with a 169 total. Julie Miller shot an 87 Saturday and carries a 171 total into the final round, tied for 48th with teammate Jessica Wofford. Wofford shot an 83, five strokes better than her score Friday. Johanna Ebenhag owns a 172 total and is in 54th place playing as an individual.
Susannah Aboff, from Princeton, shot a 3-under-par 69 Saturday, nine strokes better than her Friday score of 78, to vault into the individual lead with a 147 total. She leads Winthrop's Jutta Dgerman by three strokes heading into Sunday's final round.
The Shamrock Invitational is being hosted by Winthrop at the Tega Cay Country Club. The course is a par-72, 5,969 yard layout
