SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Just five days after wrapping up USC Upstate's first Division I title by defeating Campbell, 7-0, to take the Atlantic Sun Conference regular season title, the USC Upstate women's tennis team was rewarded by Tennis.com as the match is being labeled the Match of the Week by Tennis Magazine's Web site.
Tennis.com's Marcia Frost writes, "I bet everyone is wondering why, with all the incredible college tennis matches played in the last week I would pick a 7-0 match for the Match of the Week. After sifting through (I am not kidding) a hundred potential possibilities, I found this one to be the most significant match. It wasn't because it was a close match, but it one of the most meaningful.
"The University of South Carolina Upstate is in their very first year as an NCAA Division I school after moving up from DII. The women have certainly proven they belong there with this match -- the clincher of the Atlantic Sun Conference regular season title. WIth it, they finish the dual match season at 17-3 overall and a perfect 11-0 in the conference."
