Richmond, Ky. - The USC Upstate women's golf team turned in a 325 in the first round of the EKU Spring Invitational hosted by Eastern Kentucky University Friday afternoon.
The tournament was scheduled to be a 54-hole event. However, weather caused a delay Friday and the first round did not get underway until nearly 3:00 p.m. The tournament will now be a 36-hole event and will conclude Saturday with 18 holes.
Upstate's 325 puts the Spartans in sixth place in the seven-team tournament. Upstate is two shots ahead of Ohio, which turned in a 327. Eastern Michigan opened the tournament with a 303 and takes a 12-stroke lead into the final round. Evansville shot a 315 and is in second place. Eastern Kentucky is third with a 316 and is in a three-way tie with Winthrop and Tennessee Tech.
Richelle Wedzik and Julie Miller each shot 80 on the day and are tied for 17th heading into the final round Saturday. Richia Wedzik turned in an 82 and is tied for 28th. Audrey Church opened with an 83 and is in 31st. Jessica Wofford is 41st after shooting an 87. Traci Bodner, playing as an individual, shot an 80 and is tied for 17th with Miller and Richelle Wedzik.
