
Wofford Leads Upstate At Sea Trail Intercollegiate

Sunset Beach, N.C. - Jessica Wofford turned in her second straight strong opening round of the year, carding a 75 on the day to lead Upstate in the first round of the Sea Trail Intercollegiate played on the 5,947-yard, par-72 Byrd Course at the Sea Trail Resort.
Wofford stands in a tie for fourth place after the first of three rounds in the 54-hole tournament. She is four strokes back of Murray State's Megan McKinney, who finished with a 1-under 71 on the day. East Tennessee State's Laura Jansone opened with a 73 and is two strokes back of the lead and two strokes ahead of Wofford, while Elon's Tara McFadden is third after shooting 74.
Wofford's performance paced Upstate to a 314 team score as the Spartans are in a tie for seventh place out of 17 teams heading into the second round of play Saturday. The Spartans are 11 strokes back of tournament leader and host Elon. Elon opened with a 303 and is followed by Bethune-Cookman (308), Murray State (308), East Tennessee State (309), Longwood (309), Cincinnati (312), James Madison (314), Upstate, Gardner-Webb (321) and Xavier (322) in the top-10.
In addition to Wofford, Upstate got solid play from Julie Miller and Richelle Wedzik, both of whom carded 79 on the day and are tied for 23rd entering the second round. Audrey Church turned in an 81 and is tied for 44th, while Richia Wedzik is tied for 54th after opening the tournament with an 82.
