
Upstate Finishes 11th At Sea Trail

Sunset Beach, N.C. - The USC Upstate women's golf team turned in its second 314 team total of the 54-hole tournament to finish 11th in the 17-team Sea Trail Intercollegiate played on the Byrd Course at the Sea Trail Resort Sunday.
Upstate rebounded after shooting a 323 Saturday by shaving nine strokes off of its score Sunday afternoon. The Spartans finished the tournament with a 951 total to finish one stroke ahead of Appalachian State. Upstate also finished ahead of A-Sun foe Florida Gulf Coast, which finished 13th at 956. The Spartans also defeated Radford, Methodist, Hampton and South Carolina State.
East Tennessee State shot its second straight 298 to win the tournament with a 905 total. The Lady Buccaneers won by seven strokes over Longwood. Elon finished third with a 914 total and was followed in the top-10 by Cincinnati (916), Murray State (922), James Madison (931), Bethune-Cookman (938), Belmont Abbey (939), Xavier (947) and Gardner-Webb (948).
Richelle Wedzik turned in a 74 Sunday, one of just two Spartans to shoot in the 70s, to finish as the low Upstate player in the tournament. She finished with a 54-hole 234 total to claim a top-25 finish and in a tie for 24th. Julie Miller also had a solid tournament for the Spartans. She turned in an 80 Sunday to finish in a tie for 27th with a 235 total.
Richia Wedzik, also finished in the 70s Sunday, carding a 79 to help the Spartan cause. She finished as the third-lowest Upstate player in the tournament in a tie for 62nd with a 243 total. Audrey Church and Jessica Wofford both finished in a tie for 68th after finishing with a 246 54-hole total. Church turned in an 81 Sunday, while Wofford shot an 83.
ETSU's Laura Jansone shot a 73 and cruised to a six stroke victory in the tournament with an even-par 216 tournament total. Cincinnati's Bambee Dela Paz finished second with a 222 total after finishing with a 71 Sunday.
