
Spartan Women Set To Close Fall Season At Wofford Fall Challenge

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - The USC Upstate women's tennis team will cap off its third fall season as a member of Division I on Friday when it heads to crosstown rival Wofford for the Wofford Fall Challenge. The Spartans have dominated the Wofford Fall Challenge in the past two seasons, winning 23 of their 30 singles matches and 13 of 16 doubles matches at the event. The tournament is run in a non-scored flighted round-robin format, with each team's No. 1 player facing each other participating team's No. 1 and moving on through No. 6. Upstate will be led by junior Emilia Milovanovic, who won all three of her singles and doubles matches at the event in 2008. She has won all six of her doubles matches at the challenge in her career.
2008 Tournament Recap
Senior Anna Novo won two singles matches to move within one of the school's career record of 73 and she completed the weekend a perfect 3-0 in singles and doubles as the USC Upstate women's tennis team won five of its six doubles matches and nine of its 12 singles matches during the final day of the Wofford Fall Challenge. The Wofford Fall Challenge was laid out in a team vs. team round robin format, with no team results being kept. Against Wofford, the Spartans won three of four matches. Against Gardner-Webb, the Spartans won all three doubles and all six singles matches. In action against East Carolina, the Spartans won two of three doubles matches and three of the six singles matches.

Junior Emilia Milovanovic is just one doubles win shy of breaking the school record for tournament wins, a mark currently shared by her former doubles partner Anna Novo (2005-09). Both players have 22 career doubles wins during fall play.
Cinthya Lazaro has a 3-2 singles record this fall, increasing her career record to 24-6. The Peruvian won her lone consolation singles match in the `B' draw at the UNF Tournament.
Sophomore Ana-Sofia Camberos has a 3-2 mark in doubles play this fall, playing with both senior Carolina Bello and Catherine Estupinan.
The doubles teams of Emilia Milovanovic and Cinthya Lazaro (`A' flight) and Carolina Bello and Ana-Sofia Camberos (`B' flight) each reached the finals of the USC Upstate Fall Tournament, marking the eighth time in the D-I era a Spartan doubles team made the finals of a fall tournament.
Junior Emilia Milovanovic reached the fifth doubles finals of her career at the Upstate Fall Tournament, as the 5-9 Parisian did so in the `A' flight with Cinthya Lazaro. Milovanovic reached four finals with Anna Novo '09, winning three tournament titles.
Junior Emilia Milovanovic also reached the `B' flight of singles of the USC Upstate Fall Tournament, marking the second time in her career that she reached a tournament finals. She won the 2008 ETSU Blue flight title in her first tournament finals appearance.
In two years of Division I play, the Spartans have a record of 121-75 (.617) in tournament matches. In singles play, the Spartans are 79-51 (.607).
Junior Emilia Milovanovic enters the year looking to move up the career charts in singles, doubles and combined wins. Currently, she is 11th in singles wins with 33, just 12 wins from the top 10. In doubles play, Milovanovic's 46 wins is seventh and she is 11th with 79 combined wins, just one from the top 10.
Sophomores Ana-Sofia Camberos and Cinthya Lazaro and junior Emilia Milovanovic were all members of the A-Sun All-Freshman Team. Camberos and Lazaro earned the honors in 2009 and Milovanovic earned it in 2008.
