SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Junior Emilia Milovanovic teamed with Cinthya Lazaro to defeat Presbyterian's Paige Oelke and Heather Isbell, 8-3, helping Milovanovic set a new school record with the 23rd fall tournament doubles win of her career to highlight her perfect day at the Wofford Fall Challenge, as she won a singles and two doubles matches for the USC Upstate women's tennis team at the Reaves Tennis Center on Friday.
Milovanovic, who has now won nine straight matches at the event after winning all six of her matches (three singles, three doubles) as a sophomore, also downed Isbell, 6-3, 6-2 in singles play. In the second round of doubles, she teamed with Karen Martinez, playing unattached, to beat North Florida's Victoria Krook and Melanie Aguirre, 9-7. Since Martinez played unattached, it does not count on Milovanovic's career record, but the Paris, France native still has a remarkable 23-7 record in fall tournament play. She surpassed the mark set by her former doubles partner, Anna Novo, with whom she won 20 of her 23 matches.
Lazaro, who lost a close two-set match to Presbyterian's Heather Heausel, 7-5, 7-6 (3), also had a perfect day on the doubles court, winning her match with Milovanovic before posting an 8-6 win over Megan Davis and Olivia McMillan with freshman Catherine Estupinan.
Estupinan, who fell in her first round singles match to Virginia Waldron, also added a doubles win with Martinez, as the pair played unattached to beat Presbyterian's Margaux Melby and Cara Caruso, 8-3.
The Spartans will wrap up their fall season and the Wofford Fall Challenge on Saturday, with play at the Reaves Tennis Complex beginning at 9 a.m. The Spartans will play two rounds of singles play and one round of doubles.
