
Novo Earns Fourth All-Conference Honor Of Her Career, Earning First Team All-A-Sun Honors

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Senior Anna Novo became the tennis first player in school history to earn four all-conference selections in a career as the USC Upstate women's tennis player had three players on the All-Atlantic Sun Conference teams and two players earned mention on the league's All-Freshman team. Both freshmen Cinthya Lazaro and Ana-Sofia Camberos earned both Second Team All-A-Sun and A-Sun All-Freshman Team honors.
Novo was one of four unanimous selections to the league's first team, thanks to a 26-5 overall singles record and a 21-8 doubles mark. The award was the fourth all-conference award of her career, as she earned All-Peach Belt singles honors in 2006 and 2007 before earning All-A-Sun First Team honors in 2008 and 2009. Novo, who finished 16-1 in dual meet singles play at No. 1 singles, finished 9-1 in A-Sun play and earned a conference-record three A-Sun Player of the Week awards.
Novo finished her career as the most decorated player in school history, earning two Division II All-American honors in 2006 and 2007, an A-Sun Player of the Year award in 2008 and a conference-record tying five career player of the week awards. She finished her career with a school-record 90 singles wins, 71 doubles wins and 161 combined wins.
Lazaro earned second team and all-freshman honors for posting a school freshman record 21 wins during her rookie season. The Peruvian finished the season with a 21-4 overall record, adding a 14-3 dual meet record. At No. 5 singles, Lazaro was 11-3, adding a 9-1 record in the A-Sun. Lazaro was also solid in doubles play, posting a 15-11 record in doubles play to tie the Upstate freshman record for combined wins, tying 2008 A-Sun All-Freshman selection Emilia Milovanovic, who also posted 36 wins.
Camberos also earned second team and all-freshman honors after notching an 11-1 overall record, including a 9-1 mark in A-Sun play. Playing at the No. 6 position, Camberos was 10-1 and won a three-set match against North Florida that clinched Upstate's nail-biting 4-3 win. In doubles play, Camberos added a 9-3 mark while playing at the No. 3 position.
USC Upstate finished its second season of Division I play with a 13-4 overall record and an 8-2 mark in the Atlantic Sun Conference, good for third in the league. The team also had a nine-match winning streak, the third longest in school history.
