
Lazaro Leads Spartans On First Day Of Upstate Fall Tournament

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Cinthya Lazaro posted two impressive singles wins and for good measure, added a win in doubles play with partner Emilia Milovanovic to reach both the `A' flight singles and doubles semifinals to lead the USC Upstate women's tennis team on the first day of the Upstate Fall Tournament on Friday at the USC Upstate Tennis Complex.
In singles play, Lazaro started the day with a 6-2, 7-5 win over Presbyterian's Olivia McMillan before reaching the semifinals with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Wofford's Guinn Garcia. Lazaro will face Marija Dzakovic of Charleston Southern in the semifinals of the tournament on Saturday at 9 a.m.
In doubles play, Lazaro teamed with Milovanovic to post an 8-3 win over Olga Makhova and Dzakovic of Charleston Southern to move into the semifinals where they will face Presbyterian's Heather Isbell and Heather Heusell.
In the `B' singles draw, Milovanovic, a French junior, cruised into the semifinals with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Cara Caruso of Presbyterian and a 6-3, 6-3 win over USC Aiken's Mathilde Grenet. She will face Andrea Schutte of Charleston Southern in the semifinals at 9 a.m. on Saturday.
In the doubles `B' draw, Carolina Bello and Ana-Sofia Camberos moved into the semifinals with an 8-4 win over Sole Angel and Stephanie Humphrey of USC Aiken. The duo will face Presbyterian's Daryl Thompson and Margeux Melby in the semifinals on Saturday.
The Spartans wrap up the Upstate Fall Tournament on Saturday, beginning at 9 a.m. at the Upstate Tennis Complex.
