
Spartans Sweep Aggies For Two In A Row

Greensboro, N.C. – Katie Downey and Morgan Thomas each posted eight kills and Megan Healey moved into third place on USC Upstate's all-time digs list as the Spartans swept North Carolina A&T, 3-0, Wednesday night at Corbett Center. Upstate won by scores of 25-10, 25-16 and 25-16.
Upstate won its second game in a row and third in the last five matches to improve to 9-14 on the year. The Spartans will play host to A-Sun rival Florida Gulf Coast Friday night at 7:00 p.m. at Oakbrook Preparatory School. The match will be Senior Night as the Spartans honor seniors Downey and Healey. North Carolina A&T fell to 2-27 on the year.
Healey (St. Louis, Mo.) posted seven digs on the night to increase her career total to 1,439 on the year. She surpassed Brittany Harry for third on the all-time list with her second dig of the night.
Upstate was dominant all night long and set the tone in the first set. Leading 4-3, the Spartans outscored the Aggies 16-3 to open a commanding 20-6 lead and went on to take the 15-point win. Upstate fell behind by four points in the second set, but used an 8-2 run to open a 12-10 lead. The Spartans battled to build a 20-14 lead and went on for the nine-point win.
Upstate scored the first four points of the third set before North Carolina A&T rallied to tie the frame. Upstate opened a five-point advantage, 12-7, and the Aggies would get only as close as three points the rest of the set as Upstate took the nine-point win in the set to secure the match.
Upstate hit .365 for the match and held North Carolina A&T to a .026 hitting percentage. Downey (Belleville, Ill.) added four blocks to her eight kills on the night. Thomas (Plantation, Fla.) posted a solo block to add to her eight kills. Emily Sanders (Sullivan, Ill.) led Upstate with 27 assists, while Cori Harris (Champaign, Ill.) totaled a match-high 12 digs.
