
Spartans Among Nation's Statistical Leaders

Spartanburg, S.C. - With a 35-12 record and battling for one of six spots in the A-Sun Tournament, the USC Upstate softball team continues to rank among the nation's leaders in several statistical categories in the latest NCAA statistical ranking released by the NCAA.
Morgan Childers leads the way for Upstate. The junior from Kings Mountain, N.C., ranks among the nation's leaders in six statistical categories. She ranks fourth in the country with 29 wins, one shy of the 30 victories by Notre Dame's Jody Valdivia, Cleveland State's Amanda Macenko and Longwood's Briana Wells. She also ranks third in the country with 372 strikeouts and 14 shutouts, fourth with 2.74 hits allowed per game, sixth with a 0.96 ERA and eighth with 11.5 strikeouts per inning.
Kim Brasil, a junior from Mississauga, Ontario, ranks seventh in the country in doubles per game and leads the A-Sun with 18 doubles on the year. She also ranks 66th with 0.87 runs per game.
Crislyn Chewning, a senior from Willamina, Ore., ranks as the seventh toughest batter to strikeout in the country.
Upstate also ranks among the nation's leaders in several team statistics. The Spartans are second in the country with a .980 fielding percentage. Upstate is 13th in the country with a 1.74 ERA, 27th in winning percentage and 34th in doubles per game.
Upstate currently stands in the fifth position for one of six spots in the A-Sun Tournament. The Spartans will play a non-conference doubleheader against Appalachian State at Cyrill Stadium on May 6 before ending the regular season in a key A-Sun doubleheader at Campbell on May. 8.
