
Upstate Softball Signee Alexander Leads North Davidson Into N.C. 4A Finals

Spartanburg, S.C. - USC Upstate softball pitching signee Hannah Alexander has helped lead North Davidson High School into the North Carolina High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA) state championship in Raleigh, N.C., and will begin play Friday at 5:00 p.m.
Alexander, who signed with Upstate in the fall early signing period, has led North Davidson to a No. 1 national ranking in the latest USA Today/NFCA Top 25 poll. The Black Knights currently stand 29-0 on the year and will open the four-team championship against Asheville's T.C. Roberson High School Friday at 5:00 p.m. at the Walnut Creek Softball Complex. T.C. Roberson, which moved up to 4A this year and owns a 25-2 record, will be a stiff opponent in the opening game after defeating Lake Norman in the sectional round of the playoffs and dispatching nationally-ranked and defending state champion Alexander Central en route to its final four appearance.
Alexander alternates starts with fellow hurler Tess Swing and has led North Davidson to its fifth-straight 4A final four appearance. Alexander stands 15-0 on the year. She has been unstoppable in the state tournament and set the tone for North Davidson by tossing a perfect game in the opening round of the tournament to lead the Black Knights to a 2-0 victory over Northwest Guilford High School. She struck out 12, including seven in a row at one point. At the time, North Davidson was ranked third in the nation, but moved up to the No. 1 spot the following week.
Alexander continued to impress and tossed a one-hitter to lead North Davidson to a 2-0 victory over East Forsyth High School in the district round of the state tournament. She struck out 13 en route to improving to 15-0 on the year. She stands 2-0 in the state tournament.
