Trio of Spartans Named to All-Tournament Team

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – For the second consecutive season, Catherine Nolff (Columbia, S.C./Irmo) earned All-Tournament honors at the Border Classic. Nolff was joined on the All-Tournament team by Courtney Mack (St. Leonard, Md./Calvert) and Ashleigh Barkley (Phoenix, Ariz./George Washington).
"Catherine (Nolff) was solid across our backline all weekend," said head coach Renee Lopez. "She helped in organization and in clearing a myriad of services from the Morehead State and Chattanooga attacks."
The trio helped lead the Spartans to its first win of 2010 and first under the direction of first-year head coach Renee Lopez. Shifting between the back line and the midfield, the three Spartans helped Upstate defeat Morehead State, 1-0, on Friday.
"Ashleigh (Barkley) is a very versatile player," added Lopez. "She helped start our attack while playing on the back line and then she also contributed in our midfield this weekend. She is a difference maker no matter where she is playing on the field. Courtney (Mack) was a dominant force in the midfield at the Border Classic. She has fantastic vision and is a workhorse when defending. We look for a bright career from her as she continues to develop over the course of her career.
