SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The USC Upstate men's and women's soccer teams were both recognized by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) as Team Academic Award winners for the 2010-11 academic year.
The women's soccer team posted a 3.33 team GPA during the 2010-11 academic year, while the men's soccer team recorded a GPA of 3.03.
"I am very proud of our players for earning this award," said Greg Hooks, head coach, men's soccer. "It reflects the emphasis that they put on their academics as a group. Being a team award, it requires that all of our players contribute by doing well in their studies."
"I am very pleased with our young ladies for achieving this benchmark," said Renee Lopez, head coach, women's soccer. "These women are committed to success in the classroom and always keep education as their top priority to graduate with a great degree from USC Upstate."
Upstate was one of 155 programs to earn both men's and women's honors and in all a total of 789 soccer teams (218 men, 571 women) posted a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
