Spartan Open A-Sun Play with Trip to Sunshine State

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The USC Upstate women's tennis team will open A-Sun play this week as they travel to DeLand, Fla., for a high noon match against Stetson.

After Upstate battles Stetson, they will travel to Fort Myers, Fla., for a Saturday morning match against Florida Gulf Coast.

In the preseason poll, Stetson was picked third while Florida Gulf Coast followed in fourth.

Spartan Volleys…

• Thursday's match against the Hatters will be the first Thursday match for Upstate this season... Since the beginning of the 2007-08 season, the Spartans are 3-2 on Thursday's.

• Saturday's loss to Coastal Carolina was just the third loss on a Saturday since 2007 for the Spartans.

• Upstate was tabbed sixth in the Atlantic Sun Conference preseason coaches' poll released on Thurs., Jan. 20, 2011.

• The Spartans finished 12-5 overall a season ago and were 6-4 in the A-Sun (T-4th).
