
Lewis Named A-Sun Player of the Week

Spartanburg, S.C. – USC Upstate second baseman Janna Lewis collected five hits in helping lead the USC Upstate softball team to a doubleheader sweep of East Tennessee State last Friday and has been named the A-Sun Player of the Week.
Lewis, a junior from Huntersville, N.C., had a standout day at the plate in the sweep of ETSU, the only games played by Upstate during the week. She finished the doubleheader with five hits, including two doubles. She drove in a run and scored four times, while also swiping two bases. She was perfect in the field as well, finishing with two putouts and two assists. She finished the week hitting .625 with an .875 slugging percentage and a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage.
Lewis was 3-for-4 with a double, three runs and two stolen bases in leading Upstate to a 7-4 win in game one of the doubleheader at ETSU. She finished 2-for-4 with a double, run and RBI to lead Upstate to a 7-0 victory in game two.
Lewis has been Upstate's top hitter throughout the season. She leads the team and ranks second in the A-Sun with a .380 batting average. She has hit 15 doubles and scored 31 runs on the year.
Lewis is the third Upstate player to earn Player of the Week honors from the A-Sun this season, and the fifth to receive weekly honors. Upstate swept weekly honors in the first two weeks of the season. Katie Zauner (Canby, Ore.) and Ericka Harris (Piedmont, S.C.) were named the A-Sun Player of the Week in each of the first two weeks, while Morgan Childers (Kings Mountain, N.C.) was named the A-Sun Pitcher of the Week in the first two selections of the season.
