
Spartans Battle Eagles, Hatters in Key A-Sun Matches This Weekend

Spartanburg, S.C. - The USC Upstate men's soccer team will hit the road for the first time in A-Sun play this season when it makes the long trip to southern and central Florida for a pair of key conference matches against Florida Gulf Coast and Stetson this weekend. The Spartans will take on Florida Gulf Coast Friday night at 7:00 and Stetson Sunday afternoon at 1:00.
Upstate enters the weekend with a 3-6-1 overall record and a 1-1-0 mark with three points in the A-Sun. Currently, the Spartans are in a four-way tie for third place in the league standings. Upstate dropped its A-Sun opener against Jacksonville at home last Friday before rallying for a 4-1 victory over North Florida at home on Sunday.
Florida Gulf Coast enters Friday's game with a 3-5-2 overall record and a 0-1-1 mark with one point in the conference. The Eagles are in a tie for seventh in the league standings. They tied Northern Kentucky and lost at Lipscomb last week. FGCU is an amazing 13-0-1 in A-Sun matches at home since 2008. Stetson does not play until the meeting with the Spartans Sunday. The Hatters are 2-5-1 overall and 1-1-0 with three points in the A-Sun. They are one of three teams tied with Upstate for third place in the conference standings. They have defeated Jacksonville and lost to Mercer in A-Sun play this season.
Upstate is 0-4-1 all-time against Florida Gulf Coast in a series that dates back to the 2007 season. The Eagles own a 10-2 lead in scoring over the Spartans. Upstate is 0-4-1 all-time against Stetson in a series that also dates back to the 2007 season. The Hatters own a 12-5 lead in scoring over the Spartans.
