
Lowcountry Calls as Upstate Set for Wendy's Invitational

Spartanburg, S.C. - The USC Upstate women's golf team will stay in the Palmetto State to play its fourth of five tournaments this fall when it travels to Charleston for the Wendy's Invitational Monday and Tuesday.
The Wendy's Invitational is being hosted by Charleston Southern. It is a 13-team event being played at Rivertowne Country Club. Rivertowne plays at 6,021 yards and is a par-72 layout. The tournament will be a 54-hole event with 36 holes played on Monday and 18 on Tuesday. Upstate is making its first appearance in the tournament, though the Spartans have played several events in and around Charleston in both the fall and spring seasons over the last five years.
Upstate is the only team from the A-Sun competing in the tournament. There will be four teams from the Southern Conference and three from the Big South in the event. Joining the Spartans in the tournament is Appalachian State, Armstrong Atlantic State, Charleston Southern, The Citadel, Limestone, Loyola, Presbyterian, Radford, Richmond, USC Beaufort, Western Carolina, Wofford and individuals from the College of Charleston.
Upstate head coach Todd Lawton will send the lineup of Taylor Barnes, Brittany Lowe, Amanda Hall, Marissa Clontz and Rachel Reiling into action this week. Barnes, Lowe and Reiling have played in every tournament so far this season for Upstate. Hall will play in her third tournament this week, while Clontz is making her season debut. Lowe leads the team with a 77.8 stroke average and is one of two players to average under 80 for the season. Barnes is the other player with a sub-80 stroke average at 78.1. Hall, who was the leader on the course last year, ranks third with an 81.3 average, while Reiling is fourth at 82.3. Upstate is coming off an 11th-place performance in the Rutgers Invitational. The Spartans were eighth to start the final round, but fell to 11th in the 21-team tournament.
