
Bell Claims Singles Title at Clemson Fall Classic

CLEMSON, S.C. – After claiming a doubles title on Saturday, the USC Upstate women's tennis team picked up a singles championship on Sunday as play concluded at the Clemson Duckworth Fall Classic played at the Hoke Sloan Tennis Center.
Julie Bell completed a perfect weekend on Sunday afternoon when she battled back from dropping the opening set and knocked off Emory University's Stephanie Loutsenko 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 to claim the Flight 10 "Black" draw.
The Spartans appeared in two other championship finals, but Talia Rojas fell 6-2, 3-6, 6-4 to UTC's Clarie Mulyadi, while Allison Beeler dropped a title match 6-1, 6-0 to UTC's Kelsey Coots.
After falling Saturday in the semifinals of the Flight 5 "Silver" draw, Constanze Kuerten appeared in the third place match and knocked off Charleston Southern's Susita Das 6-0, 6-1.
Taylor Cohen battled back after dropping her opening match of the weekend and picked up back-to-back victories to win the back draw. She knocked off Mercer's Lucie Payrat 6-2, 6-0 in the finale.
The Spartans return to action Oct. 26-27 at the Davidson Invitational before turning around the following weekend and traveling to the nearby Gardner-Webb Invitational.
