DAVIDSON, N.C. – A day after the USC Upstate women's tennis team dominated doubles play, the Spartans rallied in singles play with 13 victories to finish play at the Davidson Fall Invitational played at the Covington Tennis Courts.
Upstate dominated singles play, winning 13 of its 14 Saturday matches, including a trio of players winning their flights to lead the Spartans to another dominate weekend.
Allison Beeler capped a perfect singles weekend with two more Saturday wins to capture the "Flight 4" championship, as she defeating UNC Asheville's Christina Boissevain 6-4, 6-0, before taking down Elon's Taylor Casey 6-1, 7-6.
Talia Rojas was also perfect with two more wins, toppling UNCA's Jill Lewis 7-5, 6-3, and defeating Elon's Carolina Baker 6-0, 6-1 to walk away with the title in the "Flight 5" group.
Constanze Kuerten clinched the "Flight 2" title as she defeated UNC Asheville's Emily McNall without dropping a game in the morning session, but dropped a three set heartbreaker to Elon's Briana Berne.
Sarah Vande Berg, Isabel von Stryk, Taylor Cohen and Julie Bell dropped opening round matches on Friday, but all four players bounced back and ended the weekend in style as they combined to post an 8-0 record Saturday in their respective heats.
Beeler and von Stryke finished a perfect doubles weekend with an 8-3 victory over Davidson's Wood/McCray, giving the duo a "Flight 3" championship. The pair dropped just seven games in three matches on their way to an unbeaten tournament.
The Spartans return to action next weekend, traveling to nearby Gardner-Webb to take part in the team's final tournament of the fall season. The two-day event is slated to start Friday morning.
