Spartanburg, S.C. - The USC Upstate women's golf team will close out the fall season in a familiar location as it makes its sixth appearance in the Holiday Inn Express/Hatter Classic Monday and Tuesday. Upstate will play its fifth tournament of the season when it tees off Monday morning.
The Holiday Inn Express/Hatter Classic is hosted by A-Sun foe Stetson at Victoria Hills Country Club. The course will play at 6,070 yards and is a par-72 layout. The 54-hole tournament will be played over two days with 36 holes being played Monday and 18 Tuesday. Four A-Sun schools will participate in the nine-team field. In addition to Upstate and Stetson, Lipscomb and North Florida will also play. The four A-Sun schools are joined in the tournament by Bethune-Cookman, Daytona State, Florida Atlantic, McNeese State and Webber International.
Upstate will look to build upon the momentum from its last outing at the Wendy's Invitational. The Spartans finished 8th of 14 teams in the tournament. For the first time in the history of the program, all five Spartans in the lineup shot rounds in the 70s in the same round. It was also just the second time in program history that two Spartans shot in the 70s in all three rounds of a 54-hole tournament.
Upstate head coach Todd Lawton will send the lineup of Rachel Reiling, Brittany Lowe, Taylor Barnes, Amanda Hall and Marissa Clontz into action this week. Barnes, Lowe and Reiling have played in every tournament so far this fall, while Hall has played in three of the four events prior to this week. Clontz will be making her second appearance in the lineup this fall. All five Spartans have shot a low round in the 70s this season, with Barnes posting the lowest round of the season with a 72.
Upstate averages 316.8 per round this season. Lowe tops the team with a 78.1 stroke average, while Barnes is right behind at 78.7.
