ELON, N.C. – The USC Upstate women's tennis team continued to impress on day two of the Elon Fall Invitational and are set to play in a pair of championship matches on Sunday.
The doubles duo of Julie Bell and Taylor Cohen cruised in the semifinals over Western's Nielly/Bettiol and are set for a championship round matchup with Elon's Berne/Casey.
Cohen will also take the court and play for a singles championship Sunday at 10 a.m. after a pair of dominating Saturday performances. The junior transfer from Auburn University knocked off Elon's Barbora Lazarova in the quarterfinals, 6-0, 6-1, before a dominating performance over NC Central's Rebecca Wood in the semifinals landed Cohen in the championship round. She will take on Elon's Camera Ruiz for the individual championship.
After an opening round loss on Friday, Allison Beeler made her way through the back draw with a pair of victories on Saturday and is set to take on UNC Greensboro's Amy Ellis Sunday morning.
Sarah Vande Berg teamed up with Elon's Carolina Baker in doubles play and the pair advanced past Campbell's Lindsey/Renz 8-1 and will play for the title against Western's Jimenez/Maguire.
In total, the Spartans posted a 5-4 mark in singles action and 2-2 record in doubles play as the Elon Fall Invitational will resume Sunday morning at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Complex. First serve is set for 9 a.m.
