
Spartans Serve Up Two Championships at Elon Invitational

ELON, N.C. – The USC Upstate women's tennis team closed its first tournament of the fall season on Sunday afternoon and claimed a pair of championships on the final day of the Elon Fall Invitational played at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Complex.
The unstoppable train that has been Taylor Cohen over the last three days continued on Sunday afternoon when she rolled into the championship match and used three sets to take down Elon's Maria Camara and claim the individual title at the Elon Invitational. Cohen dropped the first set 4-6, but rallied with a 6-2 victory in the second to force a third and decisive set where she rolled to a 6-3 win.
Cohen stayed red hot in doubles play as she paired with Julie Bell and the Spartan duo easily handled Elon's Briana Berne and Taylor Casey 8-1 in the championship match to claim the title.
When all was said and done, Cohen posted a perfect 7-0 mark in singles and doubles action in her Upstate debut after transferring from Auburn University.
In other singles action, Allison Beeler rebounded from an opening day loss and reeled off three straight wins to claim a back draw championship with a convincing 6-4, 6-2 victory UNC Greensboro's Amy Ellis in the finale on Sunday.
The Spartans will look to continue their fall success next weekend when they play host to the USC Upstate Fall Invitational Sept. 21-23 at the USC Upstate Tennis Complex.
