
Upstate Closes Out Non-Conference Schedule Tuesday at Winthrop

Spartanburg, S.C. - The USC Upstate men's soccer team will close out the non-conference portion of its schedule Tuesday night at 7:00 when it travels to Rock Hill to take on Winthrop in an inner-state rivalry game at Eagle Field.
Upstate enters the match with the 2-4-1 record, having lost its last three matches by a combined three goals. The match at Winthrop marks the third this season against a team from the Big South Conference. The Spartans are 2-0 against Big South schools this season, claiming a 1-0 win on the road at UNC Asheville (Aug. 27) and a 2-0 victory at home against Presbyterian (Sept. 5).
Winthrop enters Tuesday's game with a 3-4-0 record, having claimed a 3-2 victory over ETSU (A-Sun, Sept. 22) to end its three-game losing streak. The Eagles had previously lost three in a row to College of Charleston (4-2, Sept. 19), nationally-ranked Old Dominion (3-2, Sept. 9) and Virginia Commonwealth (3-0, Sept. 7). The Eagles have played one common opponent with Upstate, Wofford, claiming a 2-1 victory in Spartanburg on Sept. 2.
Upstate is 7-4-0 all-time against Winthrop, through the Eagles own a 17-16 lead in goals scored in the series. The teams have not played since 2008, a 3-0 victory by Winthrop in Rock Hill.
