
Upstate Wraps Up Home Stand Tuesday Night Against Mercer

Spartanburg, S.C. – The USC Upstate volleyball team concludes a three-game home stand Tuesday evening when it hosts the Mercer Bears at 6 p.m. inside the G.B. Hodge Center.
The Spartans enter the midweek matchup with a 1-15 overall record and 1-6 mark in conference play. Mercer is currently 1-17 on the season and 0-8 against conference opponents.
The all-time series between the two teams dates back to the 2007 season with the Bears holding a 7-3 lead. Upstate picked up its first win of the season over Mercer back on Sept. 21 in Macon, 3-1.
In the match earlier this season, the Spartans had three players tally double-figure kills highlighted by sophomore outside hitter Kayla Eversgerd's match-high 19 kills. Freshman outside hitter Alex Lagaly contributed 13 kills while freshman middle blocker Emily Koelling added 11. Eversgerd finished the match with a double-double as she added 13 digs in the effort. Sophomore setter Lexi Gober also had a double-double on 47 assists and 11 digs.
Eversgerd leads Upstate's offense and defense this season with 193 kills and 190 digs. Gober has a team-high 544 assists, and Koelling boasts a team-leading 34 total blocks.
The Spartans received their first weekly conference honor Monday afternoon as senior libero Morgan Page earned A-Sun Defensive Player of the Week honors. On the week, Page led the Upstate defense with 46 digs, including a career-high 33 in a five-set loss to Florida Gulf Coast last Friday.

Upstate heads down to the state of Florida this weekend for two conference matches. The Spartans take on North Florida Friday night at 7 p.m. and follow with a 3 p.m. contest Saturday afternoon at Jacksonville.
