
Women's Tennis Finishes Play at ITA Carolina Regional

Chapel Hill, N.C. – After winning a pair of matches on Thursday, the USC Upstate women's tennis team was unable to duplicate that success on Friday and has completed its play at the ITA Carolina Regional from the University of North Carolina's Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center.
USC Upstate senior Taylor Cohen went 2-0 Thursday in the singles qualifying bracket and advanced to the main draw. In a field that began with 32 of the top participants from schools from the states of South Carolina and North Carolina, Cohen was one of only eight competitors that qualified for the main singles draw.
Cohen opened play with an impressive 6-1, 6-1 victory over Katie Fosnacht of South Carolina before defeating Tolley Rice of Elon 6-4, 6-4 to earn her spot in the main draw. Cohen matched up against Dominika Kanakova of South Carolina on Friday and was defeated by a final score of 6-3, 6-4.
Junior Isabel von Stryk began the tournament slotted in the main singles bracket and drew Annie Mulholland of Duke in her first match on Friday. Mulholland moved on into the second round following a 6-4, 7-6 (5) victory over von Stryk.
In doubles action, von Stryk and senior Talia Rojas fell 7-8 (3) to Margaret Boyette and Alex Moreno of Furman in the round of 32.
USC Upstate wraps up its fall schedule Oct. 25-27 when the Spartans travel to Charlotte, N.C., to compete in the Charlotte Invitational.
