Spartanburg, S.C. – With a little more than two weeks remaining in the regular season, the battle to secure one of six spots in next month's A-Sun Tournament is heating up and the USC Upstate men's soccer team will play a key match at home Saturday night at 7:00 when it hosts Lipscomb at County University Soccer Stadium.
Upstate enters the match with four points in the A-Sun standings after its 4-3 victory at North Florida last Saturday. The Spartans are tied with Mercer and Stetson for the fifth and sixth positions in the tournament. Upstate tied Stetson and lost to Mercer, so accumulating more points is a must. Lipscomb enters Saturday's match in the third position for the A-Sun Tournament with nine points.
Lipscomb owns a 4-3-0 lead in the all-time series with all games being played since Upstate joined the A-Sun in 2007. The Spartans claimed a 1-0 victory over the Bisons in Nashville, Tenn., last year while battling for a spot in the A-Sun Tournament. However, Lipscomb came back and took a 1-0 victory over Upstate in the first round of the conference tournament. Upstate has won the last two regular season meetings between the two schools.
