Spartanburg, S.C. – The USC Upstate women's tennis team will compete in its final tournament of the fall season this weekend when the Spartans travel to Charlotte, N.C., to take part in the 49er Invitational from the Halton-Wagner Tennis Complex.
Along with USC Upstate and host Charlotte, Davidson and Coastal Carolina make up the remaining field.
Upstate enters playing following competition last week at the ITA Carolina Regional. Spartan senior Taylor Cohen posted a 2-1 record against some of the top competition from the states of South Carolina and North Carolina. Cohen opened the tournament in the singles qualifying bracket and defeated Katie Fosnacht of South Carolina 6-1, 6-1 before knocking off Tolley Rice of Elon 6-4, 6-4 to earn a spot in the main draw. Cohen was one of only eight of the original 32 participants in the qualifying draw to reach the main draw.
Junior Isabel von Stryk and senior Talia Rojas also competed at the ITA Carolina Regional. Von Stryk was originally slotted in the main singles draw and later played with Rojas in the doubles bracket.
Earlier in the year, Upstate participated in the Elon Invitational, hosted the USC Upstate Fall Classic and competed in Clemson's Duckworth Fall Classic.
