
Upstate Wraps Up Day One of 49er Invitational

Charlotte, N.C. – The USC Upstate women's tennis team captured two doubles matches on day one of the 49er Invitational Friday afternoon at the Halton-Wagner Tennis Complex.
The Spartans played in two doubles contests before rounding out the day with one singles match. Upstate took on Coastal Carolina and Charlotte in doubles play, and then faced CCU again in singles action.
The doubles duo of Sarah Vande Berg and Anna Zoske started things off by defeating Libby Scott and Honami Yazawa of Coastal Carolina 8-7 (5). Lindsey Buenger and Talia Rojas would fall in their match to CCU's Dominique De Wit and Kourtney Kowal 8-3.
In their second doubles match of the afternoon, the Spartans went 1-1 against host school Charlotte. Buenger and Rojas responded in their match with Jessica Perez and Macy Vonderschmidt, winning by a score of 8-6. Vande Berg and Zoske fell 8-5 to Lisa Grosselius and Natsuko Takayanagi.
Upstate ended the day by taking on Coastal Carolina in four singles matches. CCU would go on to win all four matches.
The Spartans will resume play Saturday at the 49er Invitational.
