Clemson, S.C. – A pair of USC Upstate women's tennis doubles teams reached the finals of their respective flights Friday afternoon to highlight competition from day one of the Duckworth Family Fall Classic from the Hoke Sloan Tennis Center.
Junior Isabel von Stryk and freshman Ana Baran advanced to the finals of the No. 4 flight before dropping a 1-8 decision to Meredith Maltby and Emily Dvorak of Tulane. The Upstate duo, however, opened the day with a convincing 8-0 shutout of Mareli Sanchez and Kalli Karas of Wofford before going on to defeat Isabela Castro and Blaire LaSure of Kennesaw State 8-4 in the semifinals.
Senior Taylor Cohen and freshman Anna Zoske reached the finals of the consolation bracket inside the No. 2 flight. After suffering a 1-8 defeat to Cindy Chala and Yukako Noi of VCU in their opening match, Cohen and Zoske rebounded nicely to post an 8-7 victory over Sarah Evans and Julia Paulson of Wofford in the semifinals. In the finals, Amryn Soldier and Christine Boissevain of UNC Asheville escaped with an 8-7 win to prevent Cohen and Zoske from capturing the title.
Day two of the tournament gets underway Saturday at 10:30 a.m. with singles competition.
