Spartanburg, S.C. – The USC Upstate women's golf team will close out the fall season in a familiar place when it makes a return trip to the Hatter Classic Monday and Tuesday at Victoria Hills Golf Club in DeLand, Fla. The tournament will be the fifth played by the Spartans this season.
Upstate will make its seventh appearance in the tournament, playing in the event every year since joining the A-Sun in 2007. Amanda Hall claimed a second place finish in the tournament last year for the Spartans' best individual effort in the event, while the third place finish by the 2008-09 squad was the best team finish for Upstate in tournament history.
The Hatter Classic is played at Victoria Hills Golf Club, the home course for host Stetson. The course plays at 6,070 yards and is a par-72 layout. The tournament will be a 54-hole event with the teams playing 36 holes on Monday and 18 on Tuesday.
Upstate is joined in the tournament by Bethune-Cookman, Daytona State, Florida Atlantic and Stetson. Stetson has won the last six team championships in the tournament.
Upstate head coach Todd Lawton will send the same lineup into action this week that he has used in all four tournaments so far this season. He will send Brittany Lowe, Rachel Reiling, Amanda Hall, Allea Hawkins and Malika Allie into action this week. The lineup is averaging 318.8 per round this season, a figure that is 3.2 strokes better than the record-breaking season stroke average of 322.04 set by the team last year. Hawkins tops the club with a 79.3 stroke average with Rachel Reiling right behind at 79.4.
