Macon, Ga. – USC Upstate senior cross country runner Ross Oden has been selected to the Atlantic Sun Conference All-Academic Team, it was announced this afternoon by the league office.
Oden earns his second career All-Academic Team recognition after receiving the honor last season.
"Ross has been a real leader for us this year in the classroom and during the meets," said associate head coach Carson Blackwelder. "His intelligence and hard work have allowed him to be one of our most successful student-athletes."
He has been the top runner for the Spartans this season posting two top-15 finishes and won the individual title at the Eye Opener Invitational with a time of 26:16.67. Oden was recently named Second Team All-Conference for the second consecutive season after finishing 11th at the A-Sun Championships. He recorded a season-best time of 25:29.27 at the Blue Ridge Open.
Oden is one of two Upstate runners, along with Gilbert Kemboi, to be named to the All-Academic Team. The conference began recognizing the All-Academic Team in 2011.
"We are proud of the success that he has had in the classroom," Blackwelder added. "He is the definition of a student-athlete."
He boasts a 3.40 grade-point average and is majoring in Chemistry with a minor in Mathematics.
East Tennessee State's Adam Chase was named the A-Sun Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
The Spartans return to the course Friday, Nov. 15 at 10 a.m. as they participate in the 2013 NCAA Southeast Regionals in Charlottesville, Va.
