Upstate Men Finish 28th at NCAA Southeast Regionals, Women Post 34th Place Finish

Earlysville, Va. – The USC Upstate cross country teams had a solid showing Friday afternoon during the 2013 NCAA Southeast Regionals at Panorama Farms hosted by the University of Virginia. The men's team finished in 28th place while the women turned in a 34th place performance.
The men had two runners post personal-best performances while tallying 778 total points for a 28th-place showing in the 10K event.
Ross Oden recorded the best finish of his career running in the 10K as he finished 112th with a time of 31:35.1 to lead all Upstate runners. He was followed in the individual standings by Andrew Kipchumba, who also compiled a career-best finish of 138th and a time of 32:04.8.
Theodore Kountourogiannis was the third finisher for the Spartans as he finished 177th with a time of 32:55.7. Alex Love and Riley Doherty placed 184th and 186th with times of 33:07.9 and 33:09.5, respectively. Cody Ellison rounded out the men's performers in 208th place and a time of 34:00.1.
Eastern Kentucky captured the men's team championship with 58 points and a total time of 2:26:29.10. UNC-Greensboro's Paul Chelimo took home the individual title with his time of 28:37.3.
The women's team tallied 907 total points for a 34th-place finish in the 6K race. Jasmine Polite posted the top performance for the second straight meet as she placed 123rd with a time of 22:48.0.
Hannah Chaney claimed 179th place with her time of 23:24.6 and Anastasia Kolesnitchenko posted a time of 23:42.5 for a 195th-place finish. Erin Gethin crossed the line in 198th place with a time of 23:45.3, and Janay Chisolm was 232nd with a time of 24:40.1. Molly Bliss and Essence Jackson completed the course in times of 24:42.0 and 25:05.2. Bliss ended the race in 234th place and Jackson 241st.
Host school Virginia won the women's team competition while William & Mary's Emily Stites won the individual competition.
