Spartanburg, S.C. – Excelling in the classroom while battling on the soccer field, the men's and women's soccer teams at USC Upstate each earned the Team Academic Award from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA).
The NSCAA recognizes teams which post a GPA of 3.00 for the entire academic year by awarding them the Team Academic Award. Of the 862 men's and women's college soccer teams who received the award, there were 182 schools which had both its men's and women's teams recognized. Upstate was one of the 182. The academic award was given to schools participating in NCAA Division I, II and III, NAIA and junior college.
The Upstate women's team posted a GPA of 3.34 for the 2012-13 school year, while the men's team posted 3.15 GPA. Upstate helped lead a strong A-Sun presence on the list as 17 of the conference's 19 men's and women's programs earned the NSCAA Team Academic Award. All 10 of the women's programs earned the honor, while seven of the nine men's teams were recognized.
